Hello Chris, good for you te get started. Yes, kicking the ball is definetly part of your play. Have a look at this part of my website to get a better understanding:

Also, you might find the goalsetting part of the website interesting....

Good luck,

Hey Martin,

sorry for the late reply and thanks for the advice. My season starts two weeks from now it looks like ill playing either the wing or outside centre.
However, I have one more question. Is there a basic list of skills that I should learn regardless of what position I play? and if so, is kicking one of those skills?

Thanks again,

Chris

Hello Chris,

I always look at two things when I have to give players a place in the team.

1. Skill / Ability
How is a player built, how does he move, natural ability, etc. Of course, working with young players this is also influence by how players might grow. (I monitor this by the way)

2. Character
I have found that certain positions in the team require a different mentality then others. So this is something I take into account.

Your situation? My advise would be to try out new things when possible, discuss this with your teammates and coach. See what suits you most.

The style would not bother me that much, play how you want to play, and find a position that matches what you like best......

Hey there,
my name is Chris and im currently starting my second season of rugby playing for my high school's team. I have scanned through several of the articles of the site and i have really enjoyed what i have read. Right now it looks like ill be a back either as the blind side winger or as the outside centre. However, i would like to know whether you beleive I should focus on playing a fast, dynamic style, or a steadier, more controlled style, still with some running? i look forward to hearing from you.
