It is good that your club wants to invest in extra work but there are some elementary differences in running for rugby and 100m dash. Yes, lots of exercises rugby players do nowadays come from athletics, but.....

Running in a straight line? Hardly
Big strides? Not handy for quick changes in directions
High foot lift in pull through? No, keep feet closer to the groundUpper body straight? Rugby players run with centre of gravity more forward - change of direction

What your club should do is bring the athletics coach in but buy him an SAQ DVD.

Hello,

My club wants to bring in an athletics running coach to improve the overall speed of our players. Do you think this is a good idea?
