Topic review - Backs coach goes scrum/line out

Hello,

IMHO there is no easy route....

Line-out: this would be relatively easy. Get behind the computer and collect lots of line-out videos. France and Scotland are top line-out countries.
I like to coach the shorter version, set moves but also improvising when the space opens.

Scrum: difficult, you really need to involve a front row player in this, learn about binding, angles and all the mechanics of the pre-scrum - engage, push/shove, wheel and crab.
This will take a lot of time.

On both the restarts it is great to engage the players themselves, challenge and involve them. Use the fact that you are no specialist in your advantage: you organize their input in a structured program.

Good luck,
Martin

Hi Martin,

During my years coaching I have been the head coach, with devising overall strategy of play as well as handling back. two areas I have not had too much involvement is the scrum and line out.

My question is if have to learn the scrum / line out from scratch what would be the best way to go about it. Basically how I need to start from how to coach a u - 10 scrum right up to a u -20 scrum and line out..

Would you have any advice how to do this and any good resources that will help me withh my paticular problem

Look forward to your advice.

Regards,

B
