Hello Jon, Thanks for your email. My video analist has all the sportscode licenses. When possible he helps with the video session. The software makes it possible to show specific clips really fast (those you coded of course). If he is not around he makes exports to mov or avi files that I show using...

Hello, Thanks for your email. Yes, I see you lost that last game and understand your concern having poor results later in the season. Some of my thoughts: Is there a fitness issue? Overtrained? Do you know the signals of overtraining? Sometimes it is better to train less, trust on all the hard work ...

Hello, I think you live in the best possible country to get into this. The WRU is nuts about this. The best thing to do is to get in touch with one of the academy programs. Qualifications? Did you have some experience using video with a club? Video camera's are not that expensive anymore. Get going ...

With thanks to the editorial staff of Rugby World: Originally, there were only two Rugby Positions - forwards and backs. The third position “full back” (of which there were three) was added when the laws of the game were drafted in 1870. This position evolved to a single fullback and two halfway bac...

Hi Ben, Always, double - biomechanically the best transfer from power in the arms. Think about hands too. Then on the binding on the jumper, binding in front is allowed, not binding and blocking of course not. I prefer binding with the shoulder on the player, again best transfer of power. Agree? Mar...

Hello Carleone, There are some coaches using the 30-15 IFT test on our team beeptest software, have just dug out the papers to remind myself of the details, please let me know if you are interested in these documents.... The major change is pushing out the lap distance to 40m, and bringing down the ...

The traditional IRB Level 1,2,.... is very much a coach centric model. Now that the LTAD model is more widely accepted it is strange that the coaching courses do not reflect the model. This is one of the reasons I have developed my own course program, their is a specific course for each different LT...

Yes, good opportunity to discuss the Circle One: within this inner circle only your individual performance is relevant. The referee and his decision are in an other circle. Basically it is Task Orientation all over again..... The circles of orientation is a model developed by Rico Schuijers both for...

A customer had a problem with V4 on the YoYo V02max calculations, it was not recognising the IRTL1 & IRTL2 script names and defaulting to calculating V02max from stage/lap instead of using the alternative YoYo formula. We had to fix this bug, have attached the latest zip folder if you want to us...

Hello, IMHO there is no easy route.... Line-out: this would be relatively easy. Get behind the computer and collect lots of line-out videos. France and Scotland are top line-out countries. I like to coach the shorter version, set moves but also improvising when the space opens. Scrum: difficult, you...

Hello BA, If you want to play a fast game, you need to rethink the whole presenting the ball thing. Squeeze ball is slow ball. It is also a contradiction: you want to go forward, in contact too, on the other hand, timing to go to ground in order to present a good ball is also key. Too often players ...

Hello BB, Tackle is the most difficult technique to train, it is made up out of 10 individual, sequencial different steps. The first four are even before the first contact! You will have to assess the individual tackles to address the problem. You can have a look at my site or go directly to the ACC...

Hallo,
Presented the implementation of the LTAD model for Dutch rugby last week during the 6th ICCE in Papendal. I have made a pdf document to download.
Feedback much appreciated.
Special thanks to Timo Meinders for the help with the video and to Gameplanner for animation of the movie clip.

Yes, this will take some time for you to change. First, start out after a training session and explain a time table like: 0000 - kick-off 0005 - into the changing room 0010 - some team moves 0020 - back moves - scrums & line-outs 0030 - everybody out: warmup 0100 - to the changing room Focus the...
