Hi,
I have read your LTAD page with interest, I understand what you do (from fundamental movement & tactical awareness to postition specific and competitive training) but I believe the LTAD model is overrated. I do not see it work in the UK....
- it is not a proven method, Istvan droppes a lot of facts but no proper research has been done, - Canada has delivered only 2 downhill skiers through this model, not even performing in top 3 level, - articulation of age-groups is dangerous, the relation between growth and development is mentioned but age is then the basis, - players are pigeon holed, their growth as a rugby player is in their late teens, why focus on positions so early?
What has happended in the UK is that the RFU over-emphasised on Strenght and Conditioning resulting in heavy hard hitting players, but not with functional qualities. Another good example of this is the Brazilian Under 21 Soccer team: normally finalist, struggles to qualify now players are brought up through the LTAD based program.
I use the SAQ model, follows the development better.
I.
