The side step is not very complicated. Try to think about how your weight is moving from one-foot to the other. Focus on shoulder movement.
Your are running on the left side of the pitch, ball under your left arm, want to step inside - to the right.
You have to come of your left foot.
Make your last step with your left foot a bit bigger and a bit more to the left. Lean in with your left shoulder - feel the weight on your left leg
Move your body to your right: head and right shoulder first - push with your left leg. Step out with your right leg.
Visualise this and try unopposed
As you move out of the side step you can take over the ball in your other right arm. Holding the ball on the left is part of the disguish: let your opponent think you are going to give him a handoff with your right arm.
With a side step to the left this all changes around.
Good luck
