The Rugby Experience Limerick

Rugby Experience in Limerick

Where I learned my future is in the Front Row Club

In Cork for that enjoyable Munster v Crusaders game and instead of following the Crusader to Bristol decided to stay in Ireland and drive up the coast a bit. First stop: Limerick and the new Rugby Experience.

In the tunnel

The experience starts in “The Tunnel” where the pre-kick off atmosphere is created with sounds, smoke and visuals, then doors open we can go in!

Rugby and society

It all kicks offs with displays of how rugby and players shaped society and created special memories. Liked the story about how the town of Pontypool was having lots of difficulties with the mines closing and how Ray Prossor created a team where the town could be proud of.

And crazy: Dees & Loek gave us that unique seven Fiji dollar bill that is on display here too!

Experience

Then it was about testing yourself: kicking with Jonny Wilkinson and I scored surprisingly good, high jump and power on a scrum sled, passing with Faff de Klerk, rugby rules with Nigel (3 out of 3, pfew) and the last bit was a Mission Impossible laser light obstacle course. Based on my scores my position is: Prop Forward. Well, there you have it, a Full-Back in the days, ends up in the Front Row.

Teamwork

This bit was about working together to run some patterns of play. BUT: the software was a bit buggy and one of the crew had to guide you through the whole routine. This made it exactly not teamwork but very much a Planned Game. That could very well be okay in Ireland though, makes you think!

Rugby Legends

Last floor was all about rugby legends with interactive displays to pick your team of legends. Found a couple of my heroes: Wilko, Carl and Pierre obviously. He will love the fact he is described as “Elegant”.

Wrap-up

It was special moment when Heidi and I listened to a sound bite talking about rugby friendships that last forever, looked at each and well: no words were needed……..

In the neighbourhood? go to Limerick and have this Rugby Experience!
